Pension Convention & Post Office Closures

I was invited to speak at the Pensioners Convention with Rob Flello MP and Mark Fisher MP about the post office closure proposals. The convention called on Stoke-on-Trent City Council to intervene in the closures. City council Leader Mike Tappin responded by committing the city council's resources, albeit not financial, to help.

I believe we have got to keep a watchful eye over how we use the post office. The downside of having more choice to pay bills like car tax online is that we may lose this community hub. Use it or lose it.

Consultation will resume in early May on the Post Office Network Change Programme. Inevitably the £1 billion subsidy from the Government will not guarantee we keep all post offices. The Government has said 99% of the total population in deprived urban areas must be within 1 mile of their nearest Post office. My priority now on this is to work with Fegg Hayes. Take a look at the press notice I issued in response to closure announcement, and post office closures.

For more information on the closures visit the Post Office Network Change Programme website.
