Buses Campaign.

I have been fighting a campaign to improve bus services in the city. Following the survey I recently conducted asking constituents what issues most concerned them and bus services were revealed as a top priority. Residents raised complaints about the reliability of the service, the need for improved East-West links connecting Leek and Burslem and the cleanliness of the buses themselves.

Last week I followed up these concerns by holding a meeting with the Managing Director of First Bus, Mr Ken Poole, and local constituent Mrs Stafford in order to learn what plans First Bus has to address the issues.

It is important that we see real improvements in our local bus services.  Many people rely on buses to visit friends and family or go to the shops and it important that we have a service which is fit for purpose.  I am delighted that First Bus agreed to meet with me and engage with my constituents on the complaints they have made and now that they have heard these concerns there appears to be a real will to make improvements.  Ms Stafford could not have made a better case for the high standards she wants First Bus to adopt.  I shall also be following up our meeting with a request that we bid for local funding from the Kick Start Fund to improve links between Children's centres and NHS services
