From time to time MPs get asked to support different awareness campaigns I support Blue September UK 2012

Blue September is a nationwide awareness and fundraising initiative concerning cancers that affect men. 154,000 men a year are diagnosed with cancer in the UK and 81,000 men a year die. Many of these deaths can be avoided.

The campaign works to communicate a serious message in a light-hearted way, through a combination of events on both a local and national level, and of course using the colour blue wherever possible - including on your face!

This year Blue September UK is collaborating with The Urology Foundation. The aim of The Foundation is to improve the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with urological disease through the development and support of medical education and sponsorship of research. Urological cancers include those of the prostate (male only cancer), bladder and kidneys, with many more men than women affected by the latter two.  At least one in three cancers is preventable, and through the Blue September campaign we aim to highlight the importance of taking preventative action and seeking medical advice as soon as possible.
